Tunnel ventilation is a natural spin-off from Naston's considerable expertise in the field of wastewater treatment systems and infrastructure. As a result of completing a number of significant environmental infrastructure projects Naston has developed the technology and engineering skills necessary to design, install and maintain tunnel ventilation systems for a wide range of tunnels.
A particularly useful application for this expertise is National Grid power cable tunnel ventilation; an area into which Naston is rapidly expanding. Project briefs to date include the integration of tunnel ventilation fans into an existing National Grid power cable tunnel network, ensuring correct air flow to maintain the desired temperature as well as extra fans for stairwells etc for the safety of maintenance staff.
Controlling the cable tunnel airflow involves ensuring that fans are suitably sited and engineered to minimise noise pollution and Naston has developed tried and tested solutions to achieve this. Naston will undertake flow modelling to ensure the engineering solution adequately meets the parameters of the project. Water Removal and Treatment
Naston's expertise as wastewater contractors mean that the control and removal of water from power cable tunnel systems is a simple matter. Naston will install specialist pumps to remove water from the tunnel and can apply their industrial wastewater treatment technology to deal with contaminants, including oil, prior to discharging the pumped tunnel water in accordance with strict Environment Agency guidelines.
